Velars-sur-Ouche: Diving boards built into trees dismantled to “avoid any drama”

The mayor of Velars-sur-Ouche, Thierry Jean, has decided to dismantle platforms built from recycled materials as diving boards in the trees near the Ouche River, near the bowling green.
"Through word of mouth, many young people were finding themselves at this location, taking reckless risks. The situation had become very worrying with these platforms, the most dangerous of which was 5 meters above the riverbank," the mayor described.
"If you add to that the difference between the bank and the water level, which is dropping every day with this intense heat, around 1.80 m, the danger was very real. We had to react to avoid any tragedy, which is why the police were notified."
On Tuesday, July 1st , during the school council, the subject was discussed in the presence of parents, who all approved the decision taken by the mayor. "As a reminder, and for the past year, €80,000 has been committed to families, young people and schools in sports facilities and games ( city park , basketball backboards and children's games). As mayor, I am responsible for the peri-urban area. And if the developments had been carried out within the village in a location other than the town center, the decision would have been the same, the safety of people comes first," concluded the first mayor. He also regrets that the banks of the Ouche are polluted by rubbish while there are bins nearby.
Many young people ended up there, taking reckless risks.
